TEC GEAR - "THE BEST UNDERWEAR I'VE EVER WORN!"
By Joe Klutsch, Master Guide, King Salmon, Alaska
Alaska Professional Hunters Magazine

Carol Davis Sportswear® (www.cdsportswear.com) manufactures very high-performance, thermal long underwear for all cold weather activities, particularly suited for the cold-weather hunter and fisherman. The product line features full body suits (like the old- fashioned Union Suit but with very high performance fabric and features) for men, women and there are some children's sizes.

The fabric for her high-tec Union Suits is Powerstretch Polartec, the Rolls Royce of the cold-weather fleeces. The fabric stretches in all directions for pure wearing comfort -- this allows full range of motion with no restriction of movement. It is ultra-lightweight but very, very warm (about 15 oz. per suit). The material is hydrophobic which means it hates moisture. Water beads up on the outside and when you break a sweat it will wick the perspiration away from your skin and expel it out through the fabric to keep you drier, thus warmer. The material is also antimicrobial. It won't allow body bacteria to grow in it so you can wear this stuff literally days on end without a body odor problem. Anyone hunting in the bush for long periods of time or even weekend campers will really appreciate this feature more than you will ever imagine (and so will your friends!) The suits breathe incredibly well to keep the wearer's body temp more even and thus more comfortable. To boot, it's machine washable. Cold water wash and either air dry or fluff on the lowest drier setting for a very short time and that's all there is to it. Care couldn't be simplier.

All the suits have different features but here it is in a nutshell: Style 1 features a zippered rear flap for nature's call, a 2-way front zipper that opens from the top and bottom and nylon knit cuffs at the wrists and ankles. It goes for around $100. Style 2 does not have a zippered rear flap but it does have the 2-way front zipper, stirrup feet to keep pants secured and wrist cuff thumb-holes which act as handwarmers and allow for easy layering. When the user has no need for the thumb-holes, he simply slips thumbs out of the holes and wears comfortably as a normal cuff. It also goes for around $100.

Style 3 is the latest edition to the line and was developed by popular request -- it has all the features of both suit styles combined into one and sells for around $110.00. So Style 3 has the zippered rear flap, 2-way front zipper, stirrup feet and anchoring thumb-hole/handwarmers.

There are KIDs sizes and double-X Large sizes which sell for slightly less and more accordingly. The product is only sold on the internet website, by phone (712-847-0300) and at sports tradeshows across the country.

I've used this underwear on two high arctic Polar Bear hunts, two spring and fall Brown Bear seasons on the Alaska Peninsula (damp and cold is real cold!) and all summer long while fish guiding. I even wear them around the house because they are so comfortable. When I return to camp from a long day in the field, I just shed the outer layers of clothing and wear them alone. No dampness, no clammy feeling and no smell! Carol Davis manufactures socks as well. This is the first "tec" gear I've ever used that I give a FIVE STAR RATING.
