Traditional Bowhunter
You've been there before. It's December and you're still trying to fill that tag you vowed you'd fill earlier. But that was before you sa w 'the big one' and ever since you've been hunting regardless of the weather. And now it's cold and you're dreading the many layers you must put on to stay warm, and then wondering how you'll pull off the shot should it happen. To the rescue comes Web Foot Body Sock. Produced by Carol Davis Sportswear® of Omaha, Nebraska this new product takes the old union suit or longjohn into the 21st Century in both design and function. I field tested the clothing article and think it fits the bowhunter's needs like no other similar item in the outdoors enthusiast's wardrobe. It is a one-piece "coverall" type of undergarment. As we know, many advantages of the coverall design (one-piece construction conserves warmth, for example) are often negated by the disadvantages:
Hard to fit/bulky, binding in the upper body making it hard to draw a bow without ‘hunching’ your shoulders ‘up’ first, and also difficulties in-shall-we-say going to the bathroom (a.k.a. #2).
Made of cold-weather fleece, the Web Foot Body Sock was designed with the hunter in mind and will make you reconsider your thinking, The soft, fleecy inside material is not only easy on the skin, but also high-tech in that it is hydrophobic (wicks water away from the skin). The outside of the material is sleek, smooth and quiet under layers of clothing. But best of all, it is extremely flexible, truly stretching in all directions (I've heard this claim before, but this is the most ‘stretchy' garment I've seen in this thickness). Lifting your leg to reach that tree step placed back in warm September will not be difficult as this stuff really stretches. And drawing your bow will not require a contortionists effort either.
The suit is outfitted with a zippered rear-flap for, as the designer states, "convenience in normal body functions." In other words, bears aren't the only ones that... Well, let me just put it this way: that particular design feature works. And that shouldn't be overlooked. Enough said. Is the stuff warm? In a word, yes. And though I had to walk a solid 3/4mile and then erect a stand on both of my initial experiences with the Body Sock, as well as trimming some branches, I did not become ‘clammy’ despite breaking a slight sweat. In other words, I believe it truly does wick moisture.
So what's to hold you back you ask? At first glance, the price might. But for the price of a good quality camo outfit, you'll have a one-piece full body undergarment that will take layering to a new level. With an extremely comfortable fit like that of loose running tights, and warmth equal to the top polypro duds out there, you may not want to take these off once you put them on. If you hunt the late season, or do any waterfowling whatsoever, I believe it'll be money well spent. You'll also reach for it come snowmobile season or for those late fall football playoff games (wear it under jeans and nobody'll suspect it). And for fishermen on a chilly or windy lake, it might be perfect. If interested, check out the Carol Davis Sportswear® website at www.cdsportswear.com.
