Old-timers who reminisce about the "good old days" have no kind words for the long-johns they wore against winter's cold. Materials used were rough, the fit baggy and protection minimal. How sweet it is that we now have a far superior way to ward off the chill of wintertime. Carol Davis of Omaha, NE, produces what she calls "Web Foots®" Body Socks. They're made with high performance, very fine, cold-weather fleece.
Two Body Sock styles are offered. Style One has knit cuffs and ankles and a zippered rear flap. Style Two features stirrup feet, thumb-hole cuffs and no rear flap. Both have a two-way full-length front zipper.
I've been using a Style One garment and have found it to be wonderful. The fleecy inside surface is soft while the outside surface is sleek and smooth, so outer clothing fits easily. It's feather-light and stretchy in all directions, allowing you to move freely. The material is a laminate of durable nylon/spandex with a backing of non-pill polyester velour.
Because it's "hydrophobic" the material wicks moisture away from the skin, which helps keep us comfortable. Because it's treated with a water repellent finish, it tends to shed rain or snow. The only color offered is medium-dark blue with black cuffs, ankles and zippers. Explicit instructions for washing the Body Sock are on a tab inside each garment.
